Indigo Tote Bag - Small
Indigo Tote Bag - Small
Designed in collaboration with LITMUS, an indigo studio in Kanagawa, Japan, the small tote is made with sturdy cotton that has been hand-dyed using the traditional Japanese lye fermentation technique known as AKU-HA-KKO-DA-TE.
Building up the blue is a ‘dawn till dust’ process of oxidation and deoxidation that takes place over six to seven weeks. In this way, fermented indigo is alive and breathing and the color, known as Ai, LITMUS says, “is born only through the care of our hands and the passage of time. Ai enriches and changes its expression depending on who wears it and how it is worn.”
The small tote features a brass zipper at the top to secure goods for everyday travel. From both us and LITMUS: We hope that you’ll enjoy the blue of ‘Ai’ that lives and grows with you.
